Design Institute Awarded Engineering Contract for Four Thermal Power Projects in Southern China

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (Guangzhou, China), a subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid Company Limited's Guangdong Grid Company, has recently been awarded an engineering contract for four thermal power projects by Guangdong Yuedian Group (Guangzhou). The contract involves the surveying and design of two 1,000-megawatt (MW) units (Units 5 and 6) for Phase II of the Zhuhai power plant; two 1,000-MW units for the Phase III expansion at the Shajiao A power plant; two 300-MW units in the Phase III expansion at the Yunfu thermal power plant; and two 300-MW units in the Zhongshan combined heat and power project.

The Zhuhai and Shajiao A projects are listed in the 11th five-year energy-development plan of the Guangdong Grid Company and Guangdong Province. Both projects call for building two 1,000-MW ultra supercritical coal-fired units.

The Yunfu plant currently has two 125-MW coal-fired units and two 135-MW coal-fired units in operation. The Phase III expansion at the plant involves the addition of two 300-MW subcritical coal-fired units with circular fluidized bed (CFB) boilers to replace smaller units. The Zhongshan project Involves two subcritical 300-MW combined heat and power coal-fired units, along with an integrated flue gas chimney and cooling tower for desulfurization and denitration.

The Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute (Beijing) has approved the feasibility study reports for all of the projects.
