Ecuador's Shrimp Industry Faces Trouble, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Shrimp is the second most important export product in Ecuador after petroleum. Ecuador has an extensive electrification project to invest in shrimp pools that will increase their production capacity by 30%. Ecuadorian aquaculture, however, has suffered a significant economic blow due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19 to global trade, and only some of the electrification projects will be executed in 2021.

In July of this year, China discovered traces of coronavirus in shrimp packaging from Ecuador and suspended imports from three facilities that are among the main exporters in the country: Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila, Empacreci and Edpacif. This gave other companies like Omarsa the chance to occupy the niche in the market. Click here for a list of related projects.
