Enbridge Awards Contracts for a New Crude Oil Terminal in Alberta
Enbridge has cleared the land for the new terminal and is awaiting the spring thaw to begin construction some time in May 2007.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Enbridge Incorporated (NYSE:ENB) (Calgary, Alberta) has awarded Colt Engineering (Edmonton, Alberta) the E+P+C contract for the new $20 Million Stonefell crude oil storage terminal to be located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Enbridge has also awarded the mechanical installation contract for the Stonefell terminal to Cord Projects Limited (Edmonton, Alberta) and expects to select a general contractor for the project some time in April 2007.
Enbridge has cleared the land for the new terminal and is awaiting the spring thaw to begin construction some time in May 2007. When completed in early 2008, the new Stonefell terminal will incorporate six new 150,000-barrel capacity crude oil storage tanks, as well as pumping facilities to handle the increased volumes of bitumen production coming out of the oil sands patch in northern Alberta. There is early talk of two additional phases to expand the Stonefell terminal, once it is operational. Each phase of expansion will most likely be equal to or greater in size than the initial 900,000-barrel capacity.
The Stonefell terminal is one of many crude oil storage projects in Alberta to facilitate the handling and export of the increased volumes of crude oil production. Over the next three years, it is anticipated that production of crude oil of oil sands origin will increase by approximately 400,000 to 500,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) each year. In the greater Edmonton area alone there are plans for at least three bitumen upgrader projects that will need the crude storage and handling services that terminal projects like Stonefell will provide.
