Fluor's scope of work on the 750,000 ton/year MEGlobal Americas Incorporated (Midland, Michigan) EG project included the installation of equipment, steel and piping for the process unit. The plant is the first of its kind in the U.S. for MEGlobal, a subsidiary of EQUATE Petrochemical Company (Kuwait), which is a joint venture between Dow Chemical (NYSE:DOW) (Midland, Michigan) and Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) (Kuwait). The EG unit is located next to Dow's Oyster Creek plant site. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

"With a growing global market for EG products, it will provide us with greater flexibility to satisfy our customers' needs while capitalizing on the U.S. shale gas opportunity," EQUATE Chief Executive Officer Ramesh Ramachandran said in a press release. "This site builds on our global footprint and is part of our strategy to grow our value-added business as a leading ethylene glycol producer and supplier."

In the U.S., Industrial Info is tracking more than $18 billion worth of chemical capital project activity that involves Fluor.

In Channelview, Texas, Fluor is performing engineering and procurement for LyondellBasell Industries NV's (NYSE:LYB) (Houston, Texas) propylene oxide (PO)/tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) unit addition. Following its planned completion in first-quarter 2021, the unit will be able to produce 1 billion pounds per year of PO and 2.2 billion pounds per year of TBA. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Fluor also is providing engineering and procurement for LyondellBasell's oxyfuels unit at its Bayport Propylene Glycol BLO site in Pasadena, Texas. It would complement the PO/TBA project in Channelview, and would produce methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) following its planned completion in mid-2021.
