Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--The project for installing new compressor stations in Vijaipur for the capacity expansion of GAIL (India) Limited's (BSE:532155) (New Delhi) Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur Pipeline is anticipated to be delayed by eight months, commissioning expected by December 2011.
The project is a part of GAIL's Gas Rehabilitation Expansion Project (GREP), which involves upgrading the capacity of the Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur pipeline system to transport 80 million standard cubic meters per day of natural gas to the central and northern parts of India. The additional gas will be transported after new pipelines are laid, new compressor stations installed, and the capacity of existing compressor stations upgraded. The project was initially scheduled to be completed by April 2011.
The project involves commissioning three compressors (two in service and one on standby) at the compressor station in Vijaipur. The three new units will serve the Vijaipur-Dadri-Bawana-Nangal pipeline.
One compressor at Vijaipur has been commissioned and is running. The installation of the machine was a part of the first phase of the project. In Phase II, two compressors will be installed at Vijaipur, of which one has already been commissioned.
The string test for the third machine in Vijaipur failed, which has been the major cause of delay for the project. The standby third machine is now anticipated to be commissioned by December 2011.
The first phase of the project has been well within the cost estimates of $85 million.
