Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking six projects worth $1.26 billion in Galveston County, Texas, that are either finishing up or starting construction in second-half 2017. Power prevails as the highest-spending industry in Galveston County, with Industrial Info tracking three power projects worth a total of $592 million for this period.
Second-Half Project Completions
NRG Texas Power LLC, a subsidiary of NRG Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey), is continuing final commissioning for the $144 million P. H. Robinson Peaking Station in Bacliff, which kicked off in January 2015. At the brownfield site, the company will install/relocate six natural gas-fired, 65-megawatt (MW) General Electric (NYSE:GE) MS7001E combustion turbine generators, plus balance-of-plant equipment, to provide 390 MW of peaking power to the local grid. Completion is expected by late August. For more details, see Industrial Info's project report.
The Petroleum Refining Industry has only one project completion. Marathon Petroleum Company (NYSE:MPC) (Texas City, Texas), with Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas), is at work on the $130 million gasoline hydrotreater unit addition (Tier 3) in Texas City. The company is constructing a 35,000-barrel-per-day gasoline hydrotreater to reduce sulfur content in gasoline from 30 parts per million (ppm) to 10 ppm. The project kicked off in September 2016, with completion expected this September. For more details, see Industrial Info's project report. The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) (Galveston, Texas) and the University of Texas System, with Hensel Phelps Construction Company (Austin, Texas), is building the $42 million medical research Building 17 addition in Galveston. To replace the former medical research Building 18, in the aftermath of its destruction by Hurricane Ike in 2008, the university is constructing and equipping a six-story, 93,000-square-feet building to provide vivarium space and support for UTMB's animal research activities, such as housing for animals and research labs. The project kicked off in May 2015, with completion to be expected this November. For more details, see Industrial Info's project report.
Second-Half Construction Starts
Coastal Point Energy also will conduct an owner review of the $7 million Phase I offshore windfarm in Galveston. The company will construct a windfarm, utilizing one 3-MW Mingyang turbine generator to be built on a platform. It is to kick off this October, with completion expected in late December. For more details, see Industrial Info's project report.
Coastal Point Energy LLC is seeking permits for a $441 million offshore windfarm addition in Galveston. At the existing pilot offshore windfarm, the company will install 47 turbine generators from Siemens AG (Paris, France), each with a roughly 3-MW capacity, for a total output of 147 MW. The project is scheduled to kick off this December, with completion expected in late May 2019. For more details, see Industrial Info's project report.
The Chemical Processing Industry falls behind Power, with Industrial Info tracking only one project from this industry. Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC, under its parent, Agrifos Partners LLC (Miami, Florida), will perform front-end engineering design (FEED) studies and preliminary design for a $500 million ammonia plant in Texas City. At the host site, the company will evaluate the construction of a world-scale plant that is designed to produce an estimated 500,000 metric tons per year of ammonia, utilizing hydrogen and nitrogen as feedstock. The project will kick off this December, with completion expected by late April 2020. For more details, see Industrial Info's project report.
