Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--One of the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) (Knoxville, Tennessee) nuclear power units was forced offline this morning because of issues in the generator. During surveillance testing of the pressure channel, engineers discovered a malfunction in the main feedwater regulating valve, which forced the removal of the 1,221-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 at the Sequoyah nuclear plant in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. Engineers had to manually trip the unit by lowering the steam levels in the generator. Unit 2 was unaffected during this event. "We are still working towards resolving the issue and hope to resume power by this weekend," a plant official said.
TVA is the nation's largest public power company with 33,000 MW of generating capacity. TVA provides power to about 8.7 million Tennessee Valley residents.
