Green Earth Biofuel Anticipates Second-Quarter Startup of Biodiesel Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held biodiesel startup Green Earth Biofuel of Kentucky Incorporated (Irvine, Kentucky) is anticipating starting up a new biodiesel production plant in the next 30 to 45 days. Construction of the plant began in mid-2006, and after many setbacks, the plant is going through the commissioning process and will be producing in mid- to late April of 2010.

The plant will use soybean oil feedstock to produce 10 million to 10.5 million gallons of ASTM on-spec biodiesel in a variety of B5 and B20 blends during the first 12 months of production. Future plans are to increase production to 25 million gallons per year in the second year of operations. In its third year, output from the facility is expected to be between 50 million and 75 million gallons per year.

The company is also investigating utilizing heterotrophic algae to produce algal oil feedstock that can be refined to renewable diesel. Markets for the end product include power plant fuel, military vehicles and local transit authorities.

The plant is located at 523 Kirkland Avenue in Irvine, about 35 miles southeast of Lexington. The plant has access to the Kentucky River.
