Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Plant workers at the Edwin Hatch nuclear power station (Baxley, Georgia) discussed safety issues at a luncheon on Friday, January 25, 2008, in anticipation of the refueling and maintenance outage expected to begin this week.
The Edwin I. Hatch nuclear plant is jointly owned by Georgia Power (50.1%), Oglethorpe Power Corporation (30%), Municipal Electrical Authority of Georgia (17.7%) and the City of Dalton (2.2%). Construction of the plant began in 1968, with Unit 1 becoming operational in December 1975 and Unit 2 becoming operational in September 1979. The $934 million plant consists of two 900-megawatt boiling water reactors manufactured by General Electric.
