Industrial Info Resources (IIR) (Sugar Land, Texas) has been developing relationships and partnerships around the world for the past two years to enhance our International Project and Plant Database. IIR is increasing its project offerings as well as Refining and Power niche databases. IIR has established offices and partnerships in Argentina, Ireland, the United Kingdom, India, South Africa, and China.
The Middle East will continue to grow and invest in refining and petrochemical projects. The Ras Tanura project, a joint venture between Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW) (Midland, Michigan) and Saudi Aramco (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia), is in the early design phase at a cost of $25 billion. India also continues to invest in the refining and petrochemical sectors, resulting in billions of dollars of investment. China doesn't show any sign of bowing out of the global investment that is taking place during this global recession. China is almost complete with its current Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2006-10) and is wrapping up planning for the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, which will emphasize "green" projects to reduce pollution. China is aiming to be the top economic nation by 2050.
Renewable energy continues to grow and remain a hot topic. Hydro, solar, biomass, geothermal and wind energy projects are popping up all over the world. Alternative Fuels continue to strengthen everywhere, and the U.S., South America, Asia and Europe continue to invest in ethanol and biodiesel projects. Most of the automobiles in these regions run off these alternative fuels.
Similar to the U.S., Europe is facing slow growth, but the international engineering and construction firms that have been set up for years across the globe will be able to take advantage of the areas that are growing. They can utilize their experience, relationships, and field offices to continue to thrive during these rough economic times.
