Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Islander East Pipeline Company L.L.C. (Branford Connecticut) is planning to begin construction on a new $147 million natural gas pipeline in the late summer of 2003. The new pipeline will originate in North Haven Connecticut and terminate at Shoreham Long Island.
The 44.8 mile 24" diameter pipeline will supply 285 mmscfd of natural gas to the area. To supply compression, Islander East will construct a new compressor station near Cheshire Connecticut, which will utilize Solar Taurus turbines to power the compressor units. Due to the highly populated area and the bay crossing, the new pipeline will not be commissioned until mid 2004.
Islander East has received FERC approval and will select the remaining contractors in early 2003. When completed the pipeline will bring economic and operational benefits to the region including increased gas supply and competition as well as improving air quality through the greater use of cleaner burning natural gas.
Islander East Pipeline Company L.L.C. is an equal partnership between Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte North Carolina) and KeySpan Energy (NYSE:KSE) (Brooklyn New York). IIR has been tracking the progress of this new pipeline since July of 2001.
