Plant contacts said that the rotor had to be sent offsite to check for cracks after vibrations were detected. The unit is expected to return online in about a month.
Also, the 389-MW Unit 2 experienced a malfunction on the boiler that led to a release valve having to be reset. Officials said that Unit 2 is scheduled to be returned online Friday; however, they are still investigating the reason why both units failed. Repairs are ongoing.
The Gordon Evans plant has two steam units and three simple-cycle generating units, with a total generating capacity of 691 MW when at full load.
