Kinder Morgan Plans New Natural Gas Pipeline to Serve Proposed LNG Terminals on the Gulf Coast

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners PL (NYSE:KMP) (Houston, Texas) is planning to construct a new natural gas pipeline to provide natural gas take away services to the numerous proposed LNG receiving terminals planned for the Sabine Pass, Texas, and Cameron, Louisiana, areas. The proposed KM LNG Pipeline project would incorporate new pipeline construction and upgrades to an existing pipeline covering a total of 77 miles.

The scope of the $89 million pipeline project would include the construction of 23 miles of new 30-inch diameter natural gas transmission pipeline originating near Port Arthur in eastern Jefferson County, on the Texas side of the Red River, and would continue eastward across the Red River and make an interconnection system just south of Lake Arthur, in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, with the existing Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America pipeline, which is a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan Incorporated (NYSE:KMI) (Houston, Texas). By utilizing an existing pipeline for the remainder of the 54 miles of the project, Kinder Morgan hopes to minimize the overall environmental impact of the KM LNG Pipeline project. The pipeline will have a transmission capacity of one billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. As a new interstate pipeline, KM LNG Pipeline will be subject to FERC permitting and overall jurisdiction.

Kinder Morgan hopes to file with the FERC in 2006 and be in a position to select contractors and begin construction activities some time in 2008. The projected completion and in-service date for the KM LNG Pipeline is set for the first quarter of 2009.
