Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). King's Park Energy LLC (Kings Park, New York) a totally owned subsidiary of PPL Global LLC (Fairfax, Virginia) a division of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) (Allentown, Pennsylvania) has decided not to continue with construction of a six (6) unit peaking station in Suffolk county on Long Island.
King's Park Energy LLC had originally filed in 2000 for a twelve (12) unit natural/gas-fired simple-cycle (combustion turbine/generator sets) 600-megawatt (MW) peaking plant then had determined that 300 MW was more in line with what was needed. The plant was to use General Electric (GE) LM6000 combustion turbine/generators each nominally rated at 50MW. PPL has determined that with the market being slow and local issues taking longer to address that they had planned. PPL has proposed to sell the development to other power generator companies.
PPL was formed in 1920 from 8 utilities with 62 hydroelectric and thermal power stations. PPL Corporation believes the future belongs to energy companies that understand customer needs and are focused on deliberate growth that maximizes shareowner value. PPL controls about 11,500 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets, and delivers electricity to nearly 6 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America. PPL has nearly 13,500 people in their employ worldwide.
