Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Unilin Flooring (Belgium, Europe) is planning to build an $80 million laminate flooring plant in North Carolina (PEC 15001869). The plant will produce Unilin's, QUICK-STEP laminate, glueless flooring. Unilin has decided to locate its newest state of the art facility in Thomasville, North Carolina.

The plant is expected to bring 330 jobs with an average wage of $16 per hour to the Davidson County area when complete in 2005. Construction on the plant is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2004. This new site will consist of six buildings with four buildings used for manufacturing totaling 620,000 square feet. The two remaining buildings will be used administrative offices and a training center.

Lockwood Greene (Spartanburg, South Carolina) has been awarded the design and engineering contract for the project. A general contractor or construction management contract is expected to be awarded in June.

Quick-Step is a division of Unilin Flooring, the world's largest manufacturer of Uniclic glueless products (a patented tongue-and-groove locking system). Quick-Step's North American division is headquartered Thomasville, North Carolina and was first established in 2001. This new facility will produce Quick-Step products that will be shipped all over North America.
