Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated). Landis Mining Corporation (Calgary, Alberta) has just completed a seismic survey detailing the underground structure of the proposed Two Rivers Project. The project will be completed in phases with a target storage capacity of between 5-10 Bcf of working gas for the first phase.
The twin salt domes will be located 28 miles north of Halifax, Nova Scotia and will cost an estimated $128-160 million to construct. The caverns themselves will be low-pressure shallow structures 600-800 meters below the surface. The supporting surface facilities will consist of a compressor station with up to 32,000 horsepower of compression and a 36-mile natural gas pipeline lateral to interconnect with the Maritimes & Northwest Pipeline. The stored gas will eventually be consumed in New England.
Landis Mining will begin public hearings and permitting with the NEB in early 2003 and expects to begin leaching the caverns in early 2004 to keep up with a completion time line of mid 2005.
IIR first began tracking this project in September of 2002.
