Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Larsen & Toubro (L&T) (Chennai), a major Indian engineering and infrastructure development contractor, is on a roll with new contracts in the Middle East. The company has been awarded the contract to manufacture and supply 22 hydrocracker and atmospheric residue desulphurization (ARDS) reactors for Kuwait National Petroleum Company's 2020 clean fuel project. L&T won the $424 million order over Japanese and Italian reactor manufacturers. The contract is said to the largest ever placed with a single manufacturer for this type of reactor.
L&T's heavy engineering division is one of a select group of companies qualified to manufacture this critical equipment, which must adhere to Chevron's process design and specifications. The reactors will be manufactured from advanced technology steels containing chromium, molybdenum and vanadium with thicknesses of up to 300 millimeters and weighing up to 1,450 tons.
The rectors will be manufactures at L&T's state-of-the-art Hazira Works, one of India's largest integrated manufacturing complexes on the coast. Delivery is due by the third quarter of financial year 2010-11.
L&T (Oman), a wholly owned subsidiary, has signed orders for $264 million including three engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts worth $116 million from the Oman Electricity Transmission Company for electrical grid stations and an associated transmission system in Oman. The firm will also build a $48 million factory complex in Oman.
L&T has also received a $103 million order from Abu Dhabi's Al Ain Distribution Company to construct five electrical substations and associated electrical cabling. The company also has two EPC contracts worth $89 million for two grid stations that will strengthen the transmission system around the new Seeb International Airport.
L&T is working on six substations at Al Ain, and the new contract will offer synergies in construction. The substations inside Al Ain City will strengthen the region's power-distribution network and will assist in meeting increased demands for power in the region.
