Osram Sylvania (Danvers, Massachusetts) has closed their Maybrook, New York plant (Plant 1008550) July 23, 2003 and is transferring operations to Foshan, China. The relocation of the production equipment to China is approximately two thirds complete. Since the announcement of the plant closure in January 2003, an estimated 225 employees have been laid off. The company has sold the 54,000 square foot building to the Village of Maybrook.

The New York plant was Osram Sylvania first plant in the United States and the company's only location where compact fluorescents are produced.
Sylvania has been operating since 1901. Osram purchased Sylvania in 1984 and formed Osram Sylvania and currently serves customers in more than 140 countries. Osram Sylvania, is the North America Division of Osram GmbH (Munich, Germany) the second largest lighting and materials company in the world. In addition, the company has manufacturing locations in 18 countries. Overall, Osram Sylvania employs about 34,000 people globally, which includes 12,000 people in North America.
