Lyondell Plans for Distributive Control System Conversion at Texas Plant

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston). Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE: LYO) (Houston, Texas) is planning to move forward with plans to upgrade and convert its existing distributive control system (DCS) in the propylene oxide/propylene glycol (PO/PG) plant no. 2 located at the Pasadena, Texas plant site (Plant 1000487). Lyondell began planning for this conversion two years ago and the project has been placed on hold, or delayed several times as Lyondell evaluated economics and other influencing factors at the site and in this business group in general.

Contech Control Services E&C (La Porte, Texas) initially provided engineering and design services for this project when Industrialinfo.com originally reported the project in July of 2002 (PEC 01009074). In the most recent project update, Mustang Engineering Incorporated (Houston, Texas) is reported to be the Lump-Sum contractor and is expected to complete design and engineering this year, with field work beginning in early 2005. The goal of this project is to replace the unit's existing Honeywell TDC-2000 DCS with Honeywell's latest and greatest technology platform called Experion PKS (Process Knowledge System™).

Industrialinfo.com offers a new niche market database called the Industrial Control System Database (ICS) that identifies the make, model, system type, and installation date of control systems at over 1,000 electric power generating units across the country. The ICS database also includes coverage of the petrochemical and petroleum refining industries.
