Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) (Mexico City, Mexico) plans to construct a combined-cycle, natural gas-fueled power station in the town of General Escobedo, in the northern region of the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The estimated investment for the project is $1.4 billion.
The Noreste Escobedo station's configuration has not yet been fully determined, but most likely will consist of either 2-on-1, or 3-on-1 combined-cycle blocks. The project will have top-of-the-line gas turbines, heat recovery systems and steam generator sets when completed. The power station will provide about 889 MW at peak capacity to help meet some of the residential and industry demands of the area. CFE's network will provide the natural gas to operate the power station.
CFE plans to begin construction by late 2015 or early 2016. The power station is scheduled for full operation by the middle of 2018.
The project will be the 13th-largest power station in the country.
New industry laws allow local and international companies to freely offer bids for the construction of the power station and upcoming projects. CFE will look at the possibility of adding two more power stations, Noreste Escobedo II and III, which may be in development by 2020.
The Noreste Escobedo I project is estimated to create about 350 site preparation and construction jobs. About 20 to 25 permanent positions will be created for labor security, operation and maintenance of the power station. Transmission lines and substations will be included in the infrastructure.
