Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $14 billion in planned renewable energy project completions in the U.S. in the second half of this year. Thanks to some high-dollar windfarms, the Midwest market region leads the country in terms of project value, with nearly $4 billion in planned completions. The Midwest includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska and South Dakota. This is followed by the Southwest region, with $3.5 billion, and the West Coast, with $1.88 billion.

One of the largest renewable energy project completions planned for the year is occurring in Iowa. Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE:LNT) (Madison, Wisconsin) began construction on the 300-megawatt (MW) Upland Prairie Windfarm in the third quarter of last year, with Interstate Power and Light Company (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Infrastructure & Energy Alternatives LLC (Indianapolis, Indiana) providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $595 million. The project is using General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts) wind turbine-generators. Construction is planned to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also in the Midwest, Enel Green Power North America (Andover, Massachusetts) is at work on the 318-MW Rattlesnake Creek Windfarm in Nebraska. M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is providing EPC on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $500 million. The project is using Acciona (Madrid, Spain) wind turbine-generators and includes a 230-kilovolt transmission line. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In the Southwest region, Third Planet Windpower LLC (Loraine, Texas) is underway with the Phase III, 250-MW addition to its windfarm near Loraine, Texas, about 200 miles west of Fort Worth. Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is providing EPC for the project, which has an estimated TIV of $550 million. Construction began last month and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. The project will use Siemens equipment. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

While most of today's renewable energy projects in the U.S. tend to be wind and solar, a hydropower project dominates the West Coast market region. In Washington, the Grant County Public Utility District is working with GE Renewable Energy to upgrade 10 hydroelectric generators at the Wanapum Hydropower Station. The project, which kicked off last summer, will provide uprates to each of the 104-MW generators to 122 MW and will extend their service life. The project, which has an estimated TIV of $500 million, is expected to be completed this summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In California, solar projects dominate planned completions. Among these is First Solar Incorporated's (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) 150-MW photovoltaic array near Rosamond. The project is being constructed on a 1,400-acre site and will use 2.3 million photovoltaic solar panels. Construction began last month and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The project has an estimated TIV $300 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
