Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Inc.; Houston, Texas). Mirant Corporation (NYSE: MIR) (Atlanta, Ga.) has set two General Electric 7FA gas turbines as part of Phase I of the Sugar Creek Power Plant in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The site is permitted for a total of 1,100 mega-watts (MW) and Mirant plans to have the 320MW simple-cycle phase of the project completed and delivering peaking power to the area grid by June of 2002. Phase II of the project will convert the plant to a combined-cycle configuration by installing a 240MW steam turbine in June of 2002, bringing the total generating capacity to 560MW when completed in 2003.
Plans for Phase III are underway, which if approved would add another 560MW combined-cycle unit to the site, bringing the total permitted capacity to 1,100MW. When completed in 2004, the plant will have six turbine units on-site.
Construction began back in April of 2001 on this $400 million power plant, which is located on 275 acres near the Wabash River in West Terre Haute, Indiana, some 80 miles west of Indianapolis.
Mirant is one of the world's largest competitive providers of electricity and energy-related products and services, with extensive operations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. They own or control more than 21,500MW of electric generating capacity around the world.
