Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 738-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 at Nebraska City Power Station, which is located in Nebraska City, Nebraska, will remain offline until early March, after one of the turbine generator rotors failed. The station is owned by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) (Omaha, Nebraska).
Following an investigation into an incident that took Unit 2 out of service in November 2014, plant officials determined that the rotor needed to be sent away for more analysis. Heat damage was detected after the unit's head cover was removed. Although the damage did not cause any bends or breaks in the rotor, officials still were unable to make the repairs onsite.
Officials said they anticipate returning the rotor to the plant in three to four weeks, if there are no additional delays. After the unit has all its parts in place, officials will resume startup tests. They project returning the unit to service around March 9.
The plant has two operational units with a total generating capacity of 1,353 MW.
