NEDAK Ethanol Performs First Corn Grind at New Nebraska Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned NEDAK Ethanol LLC (Atkinson, Nebraska) performed the first corn grind on December 27, 2008, at a new fuel-ethanol plant in Atkinson, Nebraska, to mark the official opening of the plant. After five years in the making, ethanol production has begun, although the full nameplate capacity of 44 million gallons per year has not yet been reached. One of the plant's fermentation tanks had mechanical problems, and once repairs are complete, the plant is expected to be running at full capacity.

The plant will consume 16 million to 18 million bushels of corn annually to produce the fuel and will generate 290,000 tons of wet distillers grains annually. Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) provided the process design for the project and acted as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.

Groundbreaking took place in June 2006, and construction took two and a half years to complete. The plant is located on 72 acres of land southeast of Atkinson in Holt County. Grain origination will be handled by J.E. Meuret Grain Company Incorporated (Brunswick, Nebraska), and the ethanol will be marketed by Distillers Grain Services LLC (Plainview, Nebraska).

Nebraska now has 22 operational fuel-ethanol plants producing more than 1.2 billion gallons of the renewable fuel annually. Additional plants in the state are under construction in Aurora, Carleton and Beatrice.

Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 177 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 145 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
