Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Delhi, India)--India's state-run power company NTPC Limited (BSE:532555) (New Delhi) is scouting for a vendor to procure outdoor transformers for Nabinagar Power Generating Company Limited's (NPGCL) 1,980-megawatt (MW) Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Bihar. The power major, on behalf of NPGCL, has floated a global tender for this purpose. NPGCL is a joint venture of NTPC and the Bihar State Electricity Board (Patna, Bihar). NTPC intends to finance the package through external commercial borrowings and from its own resources.
According to NTPC, the scope for the contract will involve the design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, inspection, transit insurance, transportation, erection and commissioning of various transformers, along with the supply of neutral grounding resistors, necessary tools and tackles, mandatory spares and maintenance equipment. The bidder also will be responsible for obtaining statutory clearances, such as customs and port clearance.
To qualify for this package as per the pre-conditions laid down by NTPC for this contract, a bidder should have manufactured and supplied at least two 16-megavolt-ampere (MVA), 11-kilovolt (kV) or higher-rated oil-filled transformers, which should have been in successful operation for at least two years prior to the date of techno-commercial bid opening. Additionally, the bidder should have his own facilities for conducting all routine and type tests.
In terms of financial standards, the average annual turnover of the bidder in the preceding three financial years should not be less than $1.4 million, with net worth not less than 25% of the paid-up share capital. The bid documents for the package will be available for sale until February 20, 2013, on the payment of a non-refundable fee of $175. The last date of submission of bids for this package is March 20, 2013. The power project is entitled to "deemed export benefits" on the purchase of goods and equipment, under the mega-power policy of the government of India.
The 1,980-MW, supercritical, technology-based thermal power project would be developed on 1,146 hectares of land at Majhiyan village, in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. The coal requirement for project has been estimated at 11.25 million tonnes per year, which will be obtained from Central Coalfields Limited's (Ranchi, Jharkhnad) North Karanpura coalfields. The water requirement for the project is pegged at 6,000 cubic meters per hour, which will be sourced from the adjoining Sone River. NPGCL plans to start construction of the power plant during the first quarter of 2013, and it is expected to be commissioned in early 2018.
