Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (NWEPDI) (Xian, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), recently received the notice of bid award confirming it as the winner of the survey and engineering bids for Datang Xinjiang Energy Development Company Limited's (Urumuqi, Xinjiang) 1,320-megawatt (MW), supercritical, coal-fired Zhundong Wucaiwan power project and Xinjiang Ruihong Power Generation Company Limited's (Hami, Xinjiang) 1,320-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired power project. The projects will further consolidate the leading position of NWEPDI in the Xinjiang market, according to an announcement from the CPECC on October 17, 2013.

The Datang Zhundong Wucaiwan Power Plant is located in northern Wucaiwan Industrial Park in Jimusaer County, Changji Prefecture, in the Xinjiang autonomous region. A feasibility study for the Phase I project passed the examination of an expert panel in July 2013.

Xinjiang Ruihong Power's project is located inside the East No.3 Mining Zone of Shisanshi, which is about 57 kilometers from Hami City in the Xinjiang region. The project is invested by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corporation (Urumqi, Xinjiang).

Both projects are to be built in the coal and power integration mode. Xinjiang Ruihong Power's project is listed as the associated power source project for the first ultra-high voltage DC transmission project in the nation's program to transmit power out of Xinjiang. Datang Zhundong Wucaiwan is listed as the associated power source project for the second ultra-high voltage DC transmission project in the same program.

Both projects are scheduled to have their first units commissioned in October 2015, and both units are to begin operations in December 2015. Upon completion, both projects will serve as the power sources in the program to transmit power out of Xinjiang.
