Pennex Aluminum Places Extrusion Press Addition On Hold

Pennex Aluminum Corporation (Wellsville, Pennsylvania), a division of the Metal Exchange Corporation (Saint Louis, Missouri), has placed a $5 million aluminum extrusion press addition project on hold. The project would have involved the installation of a third extrusion press (3,500-ton) with supporting equipment to increase production of aluminum products. Pennex is citing that the facility is at full capacity and there is literally no room for the press.

Pennex is not throwing the idea out of the window. The company will eventually expand and add a third aluminum extrusion press. It’s just a matter of when, where, and how.

This 168,000 square-foot facility, which sits on eight acres, currently houses a 1,675-ton, 7” Watson Stillman Extrusion Press and a 2,500 ton, 8” UBE Extrusion Press. The plant’s annual extrusion capacity falls in the area of 36 million lbs/yr. The remelt operation uses a Wagstaff Vertical Maxi Cast System that has an annual capacity of 90 million lbs/yr. The billet size ranges from six inches to nine inches.

Sitting on 7.6 acres, Pennex also operates a separate 46,000 square-foot fabrication center in York, Pennsylvania. The site offers services such as cutting, drilling, punching, machining, assemblies, and complete finished products.
