Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazil's state-controlled oil company Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has received authorization from the National Agency of Electrical Energy (ANEEL) to expand a plant that provides thermal power to the Henrique Lage refinery (Revap) (San Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo). The UTE Revap thermal plant will boost its installed capacity to 76 megawatts (MW). In addition, ANEEL approved some modifications at the transmission system.
UTE Revap is equipped with three 10-MW turbo generators fuelled by natural gas. In June 2008, the plant will inaugurate a 23-MW natural gas turbine. A 23-MW turbo expander will be opened on December 25, 2008.
The Henrique Lages refinery has been processing 251,000 barrels per day of petroleum since 1980. It employs about 600 people.
