Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Societe Nationale d'Operations Petrolieres de la Cote d'Ivoire, (Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire), known as PETROCI Holding, is planning to construct a 60,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Abidjan that is planned for start-up in 2011. The proposed refinery will process crude oil from Angola to produce gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel and butane for the West African markets. The company has chosen Energy Allied International (Houston, Texas) and WCW International Incorporated (Houston) to perform project-development services for the construction of the refinery and a 60- to 100-megawatt biodiesel-fired power plant. In early 2008, PETROCI will choose an engineering company to perform a feasibility study. An engineering and construction company will be chosen in late 2008 to perform engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project, which is expected to begin construction in late 2009.
PETROCI Holding, a government-owned company, was founded in October 1975 and is responsible for the oil sector. The company has three other subsidiaries: PETROCI Exploration-Production, PETROCI Gaz and PETROCI Industrie-Services. PETROCI Exploration is responsible for the upstream sector, PETROCI Gaz handles the gas sector, and PETROCI Industrie-Services handles all other related services. Cote d'Ivoire currently has a 65,000-barrel-per-day refinery with an adjacent bitumen plant. The new refinery will allow the country to process crude oils that are available in West Africa but weren't able to be processed by the older refinery.
