Southern California Gas Studies Cogeneration Addition at California Natural Gas Storage Facility

Southern California Gas Company (Los Angeles California) (SoCalGas) is in the early planning phase to add new compression (PEC 06004125) at its Aliso natural gas storage facility located near Northridge, California (Plant 1015767). SoCalGas has three existing GE LM-1500 units at the Aliso site and is considering either replacing these units with the same amount of horsepower or acquiring new larger capacity turbine based units exceeding the existing horsepower.
The company is also considering the addition of cogeneration in the scope of the project. One of the determining factors between the two project options is the feasibility of installing new SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) capacity to handle the added air emissions and noise suppression that a cogeneration project would require. If permitting and pre-construction activities go smoothly, SoCalGas could begin construction on the new project in late 2005 or early 2006.
Southern California Gas Company is subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego California) and serves over 18 million people through five million meters of pipeline in over 350 communities.
