Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Stora Enso Oyj (OTC:SEOAY) (Helsinki, Finland) recently began construction on a $175 million power plant at the company's Pulp & Paper mill complex in Ostroleka, Poland.
Stora's investment in the Ostroleka project calls for the installation of a power boiler with thermal power of 168 megawatts (MW) that will utilize circulating fluidized bed technology and is capable of burning a wide range of different fuels, including biomass, paper and fiber rejects, and sludge. In addition to the boiler, Stora will install a 37-MW back-pressure steam turbine/generator and a 7-MW steam turbine/generator. Main components of the balance of plant include a new 110-kilovolt electricity connection; a fuel-conveying system for biomass and coal; a flue-gas cleaning system; a high-efficiency baghouse filter for dust removal; and emissions-monitoring systems.
The power plant construction phase is on schedule to be completed by September 2010, and will allow the mill to generate 65% of its electrical needs and reduce carbon-dioxide emissions.
The Ostroleka complex, which is 120 kilometers from Warsaw, is an integrated paper and paper-packaging facility, which comprises a pulp & paper mill, a corrugated board and boxes mill, and a sack mill.
Poyry (Espoo, Finland) and Metso Power (Tampere, Finland) are the primary engineering and equipment supplier/contractor on the project.
