Sunnyside Ethanol in Final Permitting Stage and Scheduling a June Groundbreaking on Pennsylvania Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Investor owned Sunnyside Ethanol LLC (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), a subsidiary of Consus Ethanol LLC (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), is in the final permitting stages on what will likely be the state of Pennsylvania’s first commercial scale fuel ethanol plant.

The project has been in the works since 2003, and once the final permit is in hand, the company is hopeful construction could move forward as soon as early June of this year. The company has secured Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) as the design-build contractor and once construction starts, creation of the plant is scheduled to take fifteen to sixteen months to complete.

Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2008, just in time for the new corn harvest.

Plans call for the construction of a $140 million-plus, 88 million gallon per year ethanol plant that will be located in Curwensville, Pennsylvania in Clearfield County. The plant will process about 33 million bushels of locally grown corn annually and also produce distillers dried grains and food grade CO2. The plant will also feature a waste-coal fired cogeneration unit to provide electricity and process steam to run the plant.

The company has also recently completed a land deal in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and is starting the permitting process to build a sister plant named Aliquippa Ethanol LLC, of the same size. Construction is not expected to start on this project until the spring of 2008.
