Texas Eastern Transmission, LP (Houston, Texas) plans to construct, own, and operate 34.64-miles of 36" diameter pipeline in Pennsylvania. The $83 million Dominion Expansion Facilities Project will provide 223 mmscfd of new natural gas capacity.
The pipeline will be constructed in four separate loops and Texas Eastern will as well modify the aerodynamic assembly on an existing 11,000 horsepower Siemens electric drive compressor unit at its Uniontown Compressor Station located in Fayette County. In the first loop Texas Eastern will replace 10.55-miles of abandoned 24" pipeline loop with new 36" pipeline between the Crayne Farm Metering Station and the west bank of the Monongahela River in Greene County.
The second loop will replace 3.51-miles of abandoned 24" pipeline with new 36" pipeline from the east bank of the Monongahela River to Texas Eastern's Uniontown Compressor Station in Fayette County. The third loop will replace 12.50-miles of abandoned 24" pipeline with new 36" pipeline Somerset County between the Uniontown and Bedford Compressor Stations. The last loop will entail the replacement of 8.08-miles of abandoned 24" pipeline with new 36" pipeline in Fulton & Franklin Counties between the Bedford and Chambersburg Compressor Stations.
Texas Eastern filled for a certificate of public convenience and necessity with the FERC on January 24, 2003 requesting a the commission issue a preliminary determination on the non-environmental aspects of the project by July 31, 2003 and a final certificate by November 1, 2003.
Texas Eastern expects to begin construction in the summer of 2004 with an in-service date of November 1, 2004. When completed the entire 223 mmscfd of new capacity will be leased to Dominion Transmission Corporation (Clarksburg, Virginia) to support its Mid-Atlantic Project, which when constructed will provide firm storage and transportation services of natural gas to serve incremental markets in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Areas by November 1, 2004.
Texas Eastern Transmission, LP is unit of Duke Energy Gas Transmission, which in turn is a subsidiary of Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina). The 9,088-mile Texas Eastern pipeline system has a daily capacity of 5.9 Bcf and storage facilities for 75.1 Bcf of natural gas. Duke Energy is a Fortune 500 company and employs over 25,000 people. In the US Duke Energy is the largest producer of NGL's and is a top tier gas & power marketer. Dominion Transmission Corporation is a subsidiary of Dominion Resources Corporation (Richmond Virginia) (NYSE:D). Dominion Resources has assets of over $35 billion and owns over 7,700-miles of pipeline and operates the largest natural gas storage system in the US with over 960 Bcf in capacity. Dominion Resources also owns & operated over 24,000 megawatts of electrical generation and 6,000-miles of transmission lines.
