Toyota Launches Auto Hydrogen Fueling System in California

The on-site fueling infrastructure to support Toyota's new fuel cell vehicle roll-out will be provided by Stuart Energy Systems (SES) (TSX:HHO) (Toronto, Ontario). Toyota Motor Sales USA (TMS) has purchased an SES community fuel station (CF-450) which has been installed at the car company's headquarters in Torrance, California. This is Toyota's first on-site electrolysis hydrogen fueling station in California.

At the same time this deal was announced, TMS also announced the lease of six FCHV fuel cell vehicles to the University of California, Irvine and the University of California, Davis. The installation of the CF-450 station in Torrance has allowed for the generation of 24 kilograms of clean hydrogen fuel per day. This is enough to meet the fueling needs of a small fleet of these fuel cell vehicles. In order to do so, the station uses SES's patented, intelligent hydrogen fueling station technology. This patent gives SES the exclusive rights to develop and market on-site electrolysis-based hydrogen fueling stations, including PEM and alkaline, where information is exchanged between system components and the user.

Also at the Toyota launch, SES demonstrated a portable version of the Torrance type system. This unit, mounted on a flatbed trailer, would enable a consumer to generate, store, and dispense hydrogen wherever fueling needs are necessary. This portable hydrogen fueling station further demonstrated the flexibility and ease of operation that the product's infrastructure provides.
