With more advanced technology in luxury furniture manufacturing, experts predict a 4% growth rate each year between now and 2019, according to California Manufacturing Technology Consultant (CMTC). Overcoming the negative perception of a younger workforce, furniture defects and high transportation costs are a few challenges the furniture industry is facing.
La-Z-Boy Incorporated's (NYSE:LZB) (Monroe, Michigan) $26 million upholstered chair manufacturing plant expansion in Dayton, Tennessee, involves constructing a 70,000-square-foot building; renovating the existing, 1.2 million-square-foot facility; and performing structural improvements for parking. Also in Tennessee, 9 to 5 Seating's (Hawthorne, California) $60 million ergonomic office seating manufacturing plant expansion in Union City involves constructing a 200,000-square-foot addition to the existing 100,000-square-foot facility. ROL USA Incorporated's (Holland, Michigan) $19.8 million ergonomic desk manufacturing plant in Holland, Michigan, involves constructing a 140,000-square-foot facility. Serta Simmons Bedding LLC's (Hoffman Estates, Illinois) $27.7 million mattress manufacturing plant and warehouse in Lakeville, Minnesota, involves constructing a 240,000-square-foot office, manufacturing facility and warehouse building.
