Vermont Completes 40-Megawatt Peaking Project in Time for the Summer

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA) (Waterbury Center, Vermont), a private authority under the state of Vermont, has completed construction and began commercial operations for the estimated $16 million, 40-megawatt (MW) Swanton Peaking Project in Swanton, Vermont.

Construction began in the spring of 2009 and was completed earlier this year. VPPSA began commercial operation of the facility this month. The project consisted of constructing a simple-cycle peaking facility that is equipped with two duel-fueled, 20-MW General Electric Energy (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) MS5001N combustion turbine generators. The facility will provide power when energy demands are highest, which is during the summer and winter months.

Stantec Incorporated (Scarborough, Maine) provided the engineering services for the project. Pizzagalli Construction Company (South Burlington, Vermont) acted as the general contractor for the project.
