Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ACCIONA Windpower, a subsidiary of Acciona S.A. (Madrid, Spain), says it plans to install 1,353 megawatts (MW) of wind-derived generation capacity by the end of this year, including more than 800 MW in North America.
The grid connections include 465 MW in the U.S., 239 MW in Mexico and 102 MW in Canada, according to the wind turbine designer and manufacturer. The turbines will be owned by third-party customers.
Industrial Info is tracking 36 windfarm projects worth $5.3 billion that involve Acciona. Seven projects, worth $1.76 billion, are under construction.
The company said the Green Pastures I and II windfarms (300 MW) and the Cameron Windfarm (165 MW), all in Texas, will be connected to the grid by the end of the year.
ACCIONA is serving as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor on the Green Pastures project by Capital Dynamics (Zug, Switzerland). Located near Seymour, Texas, it has a total investment value of $600 million. Also, ACCIONA turbines will be installed at the Cameron windfarm by Apex Clean Energy (Charlottesville, Virginia). Located near Brownsville, Texas, the Cameron project has a total investment value of $254 million.
In Canada, the 102-MW South Canoe windfarm in Nova Scotia is expected to be fully operational in June, according to ACCIONA. The $200 million project by Nova Scotia Power Corporation (Halifax) will have 34 ACCIONA turbines, each with a capacity of 3-MW.
Mexico will see the completion of the 126-MW Ventika I project and half of the 126-MW Ventika project, both in the state of Nuevo Leon, according to the company. The projects by Ventika S.A. de CV (Monterrey, Mexico) have a combined value of $450 million. The $120 million, 49.5-MW Ingenio project in Oaxaca also will see completion by the end of the year.
