Alberta Coal Unit Offline after Leak in Extraction Steam Line

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Sheerness Generating Station shut down its 398-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 on Thursday, January 17, 2008, after an extraction steam line leak. The station, in Alberta, Canada, is owned by ATCO Power Limited.

Plant officials said they are still investigating the cause of the leak; however they said they believe that the turnaround for the outage would be short and that they hope to have the unit back online by January 19, 2008.

The station became operational in 1986.The plant has a generating capacity totaling 796 MW when at full load. The other generator, Unit 1, will remain online and run at full capacity.
