Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--GNL Quintero S.A. (Santiago, Chile) awarded AMEC Foster Wheeler PLC (NYSE:AMFW) (London, England) an owner's engineer contract to provide engineering services at its regasification terminal in Quintero, a city in Chile's Valparaíso region. The regasification project is one of many in four continents involving AMEC. Industrial Info is tracking more than $106 billion in projects involving AMEC, including $14.9 billion in regasification projects.
AMEC will participate in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bid evaluation, as well as engineering services, for the $20 million second-phase expansion of GNL Quintero's LNG Receiving and Regasification Terminal, according to a press release from AMEC. The expansion will increase the terminal's capacity to regasify imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from 15 million to 20 million cubic meters per day, through the construction of a third storage tank and two new vaporizer units. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
AMEC had been appointed the owner's engineer for the first-phase expansion, which brought capacity from 10 million to 15 million cubic meters per day and included the construction of an LNG truck-loading facility. The project wrapped up in March 2015; for more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Separately, GNL Quintero is at work on a $10 million natural gas pipeline, which will run 15 kilometers and transport natural gas from the terminal to a planned power station in Valparaiso, a coastal city roughly 40 miles west of the capitol city of Santiago. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Among AMEC's other regasification-related projects is one of the most closely watched energy facilities under construction in the U.S.: Sempra Energy's (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) $10 billion Cameron LNG Liquefaction Plant near Hackberry, Louisiana, for which AMEC is among several companies performing engineering services. Sempra plans to build three 5 million-metric-ton-per-year liquefaction trains; a 160,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank; a construction dock; and a truck-loading rack and storage tanks. Last year, the U.S. Department of Energy gave Cameron LNG's expanded facilities the greenlight to export to countries that do not have a free-trade agreement (FTA) with the U.S. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
AMEC also is performing engineering services for Sempra's $50 million pretreatment unit at Cameron LNG, which is expected to process up to 1.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas from the Appalachian Basin. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In addition, AMEC is at work on regasification projects in Europe, India and the Middle East. In Belgium, AMEC is at work on ENGIE's (Paris, France) $211.3 million expansion of Zeebrugge LNG Receiving and Regasification Terminal in Knokke-heist, West Flanders. Participants are constructing an 180,000-cubic-meter storage tank and boil-off gas recovery system to expand regasification capacity from 9 billion, to 11 billion or 12 billion cubic meters per year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
