Arizona Public Service Company Slated to Start Construction on $50 Million Expansion in Yuma

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arizona Public Service Company, a subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (NYSE:PNW) (Phoenix, Arizona), is set to begin building an estimated $50 million 96-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Yucca Power Station in Yuma, Arizona.

Construction is set to begin during the middle of this month, and the station is scheduled for full commercial start-up by the summer of 2008. The project will consist of installing two 48 MW GE Power Systems LM6000PC SPRINT combustion turbines to the existing facility. The project will also feature state-of-the art emission control technology, such as selective catalytic reduction for NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions. Once completed, the new units will operate in a simple-cycle peaking capacity providing power for APS customers during the hot summer months.

The Wood Group, headquartered in Houston, Texas, will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
