Atel AG (SWX: At-N) (Olten, Switzerland) is an independent energy corporation involved in production, trading, supply, and transmission of electricity, operating throughout Europe. Together with its Italian subsidiary, Atel Energia S.r.l. (Milan, Italy) the company is conducting site preparation for a grassroot 107-megawatt natural gas fired combined cycle power station to be located 65 kilometers due west of Milan at an estimated cost of $75 million.
Atel Energia selected general electric's MS60001FA (Frame 6FA) gas turbine due to its long-standing performance and excellent track record that has well proven mechanical features. The MS6001FA is a high efficient single shaft heavy-duty gas turbine, comprised of a 17-stage compressor with a pressure ratio of 11.9:1, and a three-stage turbine, which comes with a complete turbine package mounted on a single baseplate that provides maximum accessibility for a gas turbine maintenance.
The MS6001FA also has dual fuel capabilities that operate at a heat rate of 11230 kj/kwh and an exhaust flow of 145.8 kg/s with a temperate exhaust of 552 Celsius.
The MS6001FA will be equipped with GE's dry low NOx combustion system to reduce NOx emissions to 25 parts per million.
The new Gas turbine will be manufactured at GE's Belfort, France facility and General Electric will be in charge of erection, commissioning and training services for the project.
Colenco Engineering Company of Switzerland (Baden, Switzerland) has been chosen as engineering consultant for the project. This project is expected to be completed and Commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2004.
