ATMI Begins Commercial Operation of Semiconductor Chemical Plant in Texas

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). ATMI Incorporated (NASDAQ: ATMI) (Danbury, Connecticut) has begun commercial operation of its new grassroot high purity chemicals plant in Burnet, Texas called Post Mountain Operations. This plant was designed and engineered by PFI (Boston, Massachusetts), who began engineering the project in August of 2000.

Lott Brothers Construction Company Incorporated (Austin, Texas) constructed the approximately $20 million plant that encompasses an estimated 110,000 square feet of new building space. Industrialinfo.com first reported this project to its project database clients in January of 2000.

Portions of this plant began operating in phases starting in June of this year and the ribbon cutting celebration and ceremony is scheduled for October of 2002. ATMI plans for the Post Mountain plant to meet the needs of the area's semiconductor industry with high purity chemicals used in the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) process where liquid chemicals are delivered and applied to the semiconductor board as a vapor.

ATMI is relocating some equipment and assets from a plant in located in Carrollton, Texas that they plant to close in December of this year. The Carrollton plant also produced high purity semiconductor chemicals.

As the electronics industry improves and shows strong signs of recovery, ATMI has plans to develop the Post Mountain site as a campus for other specialty chemicals and products.
