Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The city of Baytown, Texas, is home to more than $1.7 billion in active capital and maintenance projects that are underway or planned to begin in the coming years. Despite being home to one of the largest refineries in the U.S., the projects span a range of industries, from Chemical Processing to Metals & Minerals.
Among the highest-value projects in the city being tracked by Industrial Info is a grassroot butene plant being developed by SBE Chemical Partners I LLC, a joint venture of Evonik Industries AG (Essen, Germany) and Stone Bridge Energy Partners (Katy, Texas). The plant will produce 100,000 tons per year utilizing 110,000 tons per year of ethylene delivered via pipeline. Construction on the facility began in early 2017 and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (ExxonMobil) (Irving, Texas) is in the early planning stages for a potential light crude oil capacity expansion at its Baytown Refinery. The project would involve making upgrades to existing crude units to process an additional 60,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) at the 584,000-BBL/d refinery. The project could begin construction next year, when Exxon will select an engineering, procurement and construction contractor. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $150 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
ExxonMobil also is considering expanding the refinery's jet fuel production by 9,000 BBL/d by making upgrades to select kerosene hydrotreating units. The project could begin next year, for completion in mid-2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In the Metals & Minerals Industry, JSW Steel Limited (Mumbai, India) is adding a shearing line to its steel pipe and plate mill. The project is Phase II of a three-phase renovation of the plant and involves installing a new 2-inch shearing line to replace two obsolete ones. The project began earlier this year and is expected to be completed in mid-2019. CV Engineering Incorporated (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is performing engineering on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $65 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, Pontikes Development LLC (Houston, Texas) is underway with Phase I construction of a speculative logistics center at the Port of Baytown. Construction on the 485,000-square-foot building began last year and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. Pontikes could follow the project with multiple phases and additional buildings. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
