Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Belgium Refining Company (BRC) refinery, owned by Petroplus Holdings AG (VTX:PPHN) (Zug, Switzerland), is planning to begin construction of a combined-cycle unit this month. The project is currently in the detailed engineering stage. Construction will last about one year. The project's objective is to have a combined-cycle turbine in order for the refinery to reach higher power efficiency. The refinery already has a 15-megawatt Stein Roualix steam turbine.
The $40 million project will involve a 15-MW Turbomax Gas Turbine of 15MW and a heat recovery steam generator) with a capacity of 90,000 pounds per year that will generate more power without adding much equipment.
Technip Benelux NV (Berchem, Belgium), a subsidiary of Technip (EPA:TEC) (Paris), a leader in engineering, technologies and project management in the oil and gas industry, will be responsible for construction.
Petroplus operates two refineries in Belgium: the 110,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) BRC refinery and the 115,000-BBL/d APF Antwerp processing facility.
