Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The total energy consumption of Haikou, the capital of China's island province Hainan, will equal about 4.55 million metric tons of standard coal in 2011, with the annual average growth rate at 8.7%, according to the Five-Year Energy Development Plant prepared by the Municipal Industry Invitation Bureau and the Municipal Energy Office of Haikou City.
The plan states that Haikou will invest more than $570 million to construct 43 energy projects in the next five years. In 2006, daily natural gas consumption in Haikou was 192,000 cubic meters, with the maximum shortage at about 80,000 cubic meters. The average daily shortage in natural gas supply for industrial enterprises was about 36,000 cubic meters, and the shortage in power supply was 55,000 kilowatt-hours.
The projects listed in the plan mainly fall into five categories: power, fuel and gas, rural energy, new energy and renewable energy, and energy conservation and emissions reduction. The projects include power plant construction and gas stations, as well as renewable-energy projects such as solar power and wind power.
According to plan, Haikou will promote the construction of an external power passage as well as its urban and township grid, and increase its natural gas resources. By 2011, a 220-kilovolt (kV) urban grid and 110 kV main grid will be established. Compressed natural gas will be mainly used in the urban, and will be gradually extended to the surrounding township.
