Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Privately held beef packer, Caviness Beef Packers LLC (Hereford, Texas) has announced plans to build a new $45 million beef slaughtering and packing plant. The new plant will be located three miles away from the existing facility and will replace the aging existing plant (Plant 1038078).
The company has been investigating building a new more efficient state-of-the-art beef slaughtering for the past year to allow themselves to remain competitive in the meat packing industry that has been taken over by such industry giants like Tyson Meats.
The 120,000 square foot plant will be constructed on a 750 acre tract of land in Deaf Smith County in the Texas Panhandle region. The plant will have a kill floor capable of handling 1,500 head per day of cattle and additional process for cut-up, grinding, further processing, packaging, and cold storage.
Construction is scheduled to begin around mid May of this year and take 12 to 14 months to complete.
Caviness selected Schmeeckle Brothers Construction Company (Fort Morgan, Colorado) as the general contractor for the project and the firm is currently seeking qualified subcontractors for the project.
Caviness Beef Packers are ranked 77th among today's leading meat packing manufactures and have operated the plant in Hereford since 1969. The company also owns Palo Duro Meat Processing in Amarillo, Texas. (Plant 1038073)
