Chehalis Power Plant Plans for Commercial Operation in 2003

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). The Chehalis Generation Facility (CGF), which is currently under construction, is scheduled for commercial service by August 2003. The $250 million project is located on a 31-acre site in Lewis County, Chehalis, Washington mid-way between Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. A consortium headed by Parson Energy and Chemicals Group (Reading, Pennsylvania) is handling the construction of this project.

The plant, with a total capacity of 520 megawatt (MW), is a natural gas-fired combined-cycle facility. Its design includes two 175 MW combustion turbines, a 170 MW steam turbine, and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). The Chehalis Generation Facility is constructed within the Chehalis Industrial Park. It has the capability to provide approximately 100,000 pounds per hour of steam to a process host.

The facility primarily uses natural gas, which is universally recognized as the most environmentally clean fuel. The gas will be delivered by a pipeline, which is constructed, maintained and owned by Northwest Pipeline.

The plant is operated in conjunction with an advanced emissions control system; it will use a multiple cell air condenser to minimize water usage and will be among the cleanest and most efficient electric power resources in the state.

Electricity produced by the facility will be transmitted to the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), to supply power for the regional requirements. The plant will be interconnected to the BPA}s 500 kV transmission system, with a 1,700-foot long transmission line constructed from the switchyard, which is located adjacent to the facility. Energy generated from the facility will be sold directly into the Northwest Power Pool. The plant will be authorized to use an average of 162,000 gallons of city water a day.

Tractebel, the energy division of SUEZ, is developing the Chehalis Generation Facility. Tractebel is a global energy and services business. It offers services in four areas: energy and related services, on-site services, design and construction of installations and engineering. The plant will be owned and operated by Chehalis Power Generating Limited Partnership, a Delaware corporation with its principal place of business in Houston, Texas, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tractebel Incorporated.
