Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--With support policies from the state, northwestern China's Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region is accelerating the development of four large coalfields in the Zhundong (East Zhunger), Tuha (Tulufan-Hami), Yili and Kubai (Kuche-Baicheng) regions. The estimated coal output in Xinjiang will reach 50 million metric tons in 2007, an increase of 10.7% year over year, the Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region said.
The predicted reserve of coal in the Hami Prefecture reached 570.8 billion metric tons, accounting for about 12% of the total reserve in China. Based on the rich coal resources, Hami is accelerating the development of coal power and the chemical industry in the prefecture, Hami Party Secretary Guo Lianshan said. According to plans by the State Grid Corporation (Beijing) 45,000 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity will be built in Zhundong and Hami, and 38,200 MW of coal power will be exported from Xinjiang by 2020.
Hami will accelerate the development of coal resources in Dananhu, Sandaoling, Balikun mining zones in the near term and accelerate the implementation of plans to transport coal from the west to the east. The prefecture will support enterprises such as Shandong Luneng Group, Lu'an Group, Xinjiang Guanghui and China Huadian Corporation, to develop coal power and chemical projects in the region, Guo Lianshan said.
The Zhundong coalfield, located east of Zhunger Basin, has a predicted coal reserve of 390 billion metric tons. Twenty-nine large Chinese coal chemical enterprises have established contact with the local government, and five of them have moved into the Zhundong Wucaiwan Coal Power and Chemical Base, government of Jimushar County said.
In 2008, the Zhundong Wucaiwan Coal Power and Chemical Base will accelerate the construction of coal, power and chemical projects. The coal output of the base is expected to reach 5.1 million metric tons.
In 2008, the total coal output of the autonomous region is expected to reach 56 million metric tons, and the fixed assets investment in coal mining is expected to reach $535 million, the Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region said.
