Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The total installed capacity of China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) exceeded 60,000 megawatts (MW) in late December after the first 1,000-MW ultra supercritical coal-fired unit of the Taizhou power plant's Phase I project was put into commercial operation in eastern China's Jiangsu Province. The total installed capacity of electric power in China also reached 700,000 MW. So far, four of China's top five power producers have surpassed 60,000 MW in installed capacity.
China Guodian is a state-owned enterprise established based on a sum of enterprises and institutions formerly owned by the State Power Corporation of China. China Guodian was formed during the electric power system reform in 2002. The installed capacity of electric power in China has been kept growing quickly since the reform; the total capacity has surpassed 400,000 MW, 500,000 MW and 600,000 MW successively in the past three years. The increase in the past five years is close to the sum of the previous 52 years.
As one of the top five nationwide power producers, China Guodian has accelerated its power-source development and structural optimization since its establishment. In 2007, the installed capacity of the company's new projects exceeded 9,310 MW, and more than 14,430 MW of installed capacity was put into operation during the year. The company also shut down small thermal power units totaling 1,337 MW during the year. Up until the end of November 2007, the proportion of units with a capacity of 300 MW or above accounted for 73% of the installed capacity of thermal power.
China Guodian also maintained a sound structure between thermal power and renewable energies, such as hydropower and wind power. The company is also China's first power producer with an installed capacity of wind power exceeding 1,000 MW.
