China Huadian Signs Agreement with Governments to Build 4,000-Megawatt Power Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), one of China's top five nationwide power producers, signed an agreement with the governments of Chongqing City and Shaanxi Province on January 11, 2008, to build the Ankang power plant in Xi'an, the capital of northwestern China's Shaanxi Province. The proposed plant will have a capacity of 4,000 megawatts (MW) with four 1,000-MW coal-fired units that will use resources from the nearby Binchang Coal Mining Zone.

The plant will be built in two phases. Two 1,000-MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired units are planned for Phase I. Construction on this phase is expected to start at the end of 2009 and be complete in 2013. Electricity generated from the plant will be transmitted to Chongqing, the largest and youngest city directly under the State Council of China.

Shaanxi is rich in coal and petroleum resources, and Chongqing is an important link between southwestern China and eastern China.
